Computer inside the keyboard !

With most All-in-one you find the monitor and CPU attached together without the keyboard and mouse. At cybernetman they do things a little differently. They have a PC that is inside a keyboard. Click Here

At first glance you might mistake it for a laptop that is missing its monitor but in a a weird way that is exactly what it is, a laptop without the monitor.

According the description:-

This new generation All-in-One PC in a keyboard takes up far less space than a traditional PC, and its ease of deployment makes it simple to install or to move to different workstations. Simply plug in a monitor and plug the power cord into an outlet. Speaking of power, the ZPC-9100™ uses less of it, thanks to its 150-watt power supply. Now, power it up, and let the Pentium 4-powered ZPC-9100™ handle all of your PC workflow.

Knol - Google's attempt takes on Wikipedia

Now its is so true that it must be a law that Google loves to control content. The want be part of content so bad that they buy of any company that deals with massive content (e.g Feedburner, blogger) if they can't they create their own and by the might of their dominance they get they product through.

Now Google aims at wikipedia and its called knol, I guess it must be causing an insatiable itch in google's butt that wikipedia doesn't show google ads and even more that they don't show ad at all !!

They must be wondering they they send way too much traffic to a site that they can't profit off and its better off creating their own wikipedia, its now as if wikipedia owns the content. The authors of the content wikipedia wouldn't risk ignoring google would readily duplicate the content into the knol environment.

It amazes me how eloquently they elaborate just the point that they are creating yet another wikipedia which is totally pathetic.

It is getting to a point where in the internet if you are not with google you are labeled being against google is this cold war of the internet, which is making me and I am sure many other resent Google's attempt to monopolize internet and almost subservient view of other internet enterprise.

And in this monopolistic world of internet allegiance it has become even more important for users, (who have the ultimate power) to be judicious and exercise balance in their use of the service ! Don't use Google everything just because they have it, see for options support the underdog cuz for people just like that made google what it is today......who knows you might find a better service.

So would you use Google's wikipedia Clone ?

I really don't what goes inside the weird Japanese mind to have come up with such products for such weird uses !

り替えれattachment to the skin, teeth, skin condition, hair done until I checked the wonders of micro-scope.
実は気になる耳の中、歯の磨き残しや、化粧を変えたら肌が荒れたみたい。 Actually worrisome in the ear, tooth brushes and left, like makeup変えたらrough skin. 肉眼では分からない部分も、パソコンの画面に拡大して表示ができるので、一目瞭然。 Not even partially naked eye, the computer screen displays can be extended to the self-explanatory. 通常のマイクロスコープは、用途にあわせて購入する必要がありますが、本製品を使えばどんな用途でも、アタッチメントの交換でご利用いただけます。 Micro normal scope of the application where you must have purchased the product can use any application in the attachment available in the exchange.

Pardon me but if I had a "worrisome in the ear" I would go visit the guy we call doctor rather than sticking a 17,000 yen 1.3 Mega pixel in my ear hole !

Just wondering what will they do if they have "worrisome in the ass" ???

In light of the holiday season just a doubt:-

So if santa were to give you this as your gift, what will you do with it ???

According to Microsoft however :-

PowerToys add fun and functionality to the Windows experience. What are they? PowerToys are additional programs that developers work on after a product has been released.

Hmmmm...... !

Here is quick list of powertoys for Windows Xp.
SyncToy
SyncToy can help you copy, move, and synchronize files in different sources such as digital cameras, e-mail, cell phones, portable media players, camcorders, PDAs, and laptops. Download

ClearType Tuner
Cleartype is technology developed to improve the appearance of text on certain types of computer display screens, especially LCD monitors. The app also allows you to adjust the setting according to your needs. Download (2MB)

Virtual Desktop Manager

This powertoy allows you to manage up to four desktops from the Windows taskbar similar to the Spaces in Leopord. This helps in segregating the different types of applications and switch between them, not for RAM deficient systems. Download (550 KB)

With this PowerToy, the icon of the application window you are switching to is also shown, also a preview of the page is displayed. But even with 256 MB ram the display was laboured and somtimes irritating. Download (534 KB)

How to Share CD / DVD writer - Burn/ Write disk via LAN

Ever wished you could share that CD /DVD writer on the LAN / home network, saving you the time to run back and forth between your computer and the one with disk writer or the Money to install one in each computer?

I am sure many of you might have tried sharing the Disk recorder only to realise that by sharing it only shares the data in the disk and not the device. Some even said sharing the CD / DVD writer is not possible Until I came across NeroNet.

NeroNet doesn't actually share the CD / DVD but it allows you to burn CD/DVD via LAN which is exactly you want, multiple users using a common Disk Writer. NeroNet acts like a server and the bridge between the Writer and the client on Network.

Note: You need Nero 6 or higher to get the maximum benefit.

This is how you do it.

1) Download NeroNet and Install in that Computer which has the common CD/DVD writer.
You get something like this:
NeroNet Share DVD writer

Just click Ok and go to step 2.

2) Right Click on the NeroNet systray icon and go to Web configuration.

Nero settingsOn clicking this a web browser will open with the address http://127.0.0.1/www/index.html that's the localhost address.

In this click on "User Management" and create a new user id. This is the user Id and password the different users will enter in their Nero.

Also don't forget to change the password of the administrator account.

Server Installation is done !

3) Now go to each computer from which you need to burn disk remotely and Open "Nero Burning Rom" from the Program list.

File > Preference > Expert Feature Tab

Check on the Enable NeroNet Support the click on NeroNet Button

This will open the NeroNet Accounts Window. Now to enable a new account click on Create.

Nero Share CD writer
Now Give the account name, The user name and password should be the same as any one created in Step 2.

The Ip address given is the server address and you need to enter this in the address bar of your browser to access the control panel of the server.

You can even launch the Control Panel Site by clicking On "browser " in the
NeroNet Accounts Window
Click Ok and you are Done !

If you get Login Failed that means you might have entered the wrong User name and password and check step 2 again.

Now we get to the good part How to Burn Disk Remotely !

Choose the Files you want to Write as you would do with Nero until you reach the "Final Burn Setting" Window. In this Choose the "Current Recorder" as the Profile you created in Step 3.

Then Click on Burn. This will queue your request to the Nero Server which will in turn burn the Disk on the Common CD /DVD burner.

You Can check the status at Control Panel Site.

Now One last tip: By default the Disk is ejected after burn which means the disk is no longer available to be written and someone needs to carry their lazy geek ass to reset it every single time writes it. Now a simple setting solution is to disable Disk ejection after Burn.

You can do that by going to Nero Burning ROM > Files > Preferences > Expert Features > Check: Do not eject the Disc after the Burn is complete.

Wordpress Vs Blogger - Better Free Blogging platform

We had earlier wrote about the difference between Blogger and Wordpress. After a month of weblogging I am convinced that Blogger is the better Free blogging platform than Wordpress.com

The reason is simple the blogger allows the access to HTML template ! This access to HTML has allowed me to modify, add widgets seamlessly. As a modder at heart it is exciting to modify !

For a noob I agree you can create much more professional looking blog with Wordpress.com but after a while you want turbo charge the blog you find at a dead end with WP !

Here are the suff I created for blogger in the past month which is impossible to do at Wordpress

Added a flash header

Custom Comment Box for Blogger

Now wordpress may be great when you have your own domain but as a free blogging platform Blogger rules !

Buy Single Core or Dual Core Processor ?

We wrote a nice review whether you should buy Dual Core Processor now. One of the reader Anonymous posted:-

Iam buying a new computer shud i buy Intel or AMD dual core ?

What's a single core ?

Well single core is nothing but the single processors that is available in the market, dual core is nothing but 2 processors. Single the launch of Dual core, single core processors cost are falling like shooting stars and is the best time to buy them !

So I would suggest you go for a good configuration Single core is a good buy ! and Don't be stingy with RAM !!!!

AMD 3200+ is a great option for a average desktop computer and so is 2.8 Ghz Celeron.

To Dual core or not ? A Review of Dual core processor

Dual core have buzzing the hardware market for some time now, and everyone seems to be on the hype. The question that begs the answer should you go for dual core ?

I decided to write this article when my friend bought a Intel dual core PC, and when I asked him why did he choose it, he answered "Because my computer will run faster !"

I wished it worked that way but it doesn't ! How fast the computer runs the Applications and how many application the computer runs effectively depends on so many factors that it is insane to even elaborate! but to name a few, Processor architecture, RAM, Clocking speed, Application multi threading, Ventilation, Type of app, even the temperature of the environment...etc...etc !

Let us start with what is dual core ?
It is just 2 processors in a single package comprised of a single piece. Kinda like adding 2 outboard motor in a single boat !

Why is it good ?

The best analogy I can think of is with customer support center. Just like customer support guy can speak to only one person at time a processor too can handle only one thread at one time (A thread is a stream of data generated by any application) so when you suddenly switch between firefox to winamp the system rapidly switches between the threads to give seamless processing just like the customer support guy can switches between calls on line 1 and line 2.

That means will it be faster ?

In order to truly take advantage of the dual core you need the application to multi-thread that is split the input into many threads..... Imagine the application like a ACD that distributes incoming calls between 2 customer support guys (dual core) , without an ACD all calls with go the same person while the other person squats flies !

This ability to distribute a process into various threads is called multi threading like a ACD distributes calls ! But many application still doesn't multi thread, that means they still use only one processor when they can use both !

Here is the Ah ! moment !
So you can get a 2 Ghz dual core processor but the application might be only using 1 Ghz !

Compare this to a Single core of 2Ghz the same app will run faster in Single core of 2 Ghz than dual core of 2 Ghz !!

The conclusion !
Multi core is the way to go ! but I wouldn't break my piggy bank to buy a dual core just yet ! I'll wait for some more year by which most Application should be Multi threading capable !

For the mean time I'll get a bigger RAM !

Visual Search Add on

Now if you spend a lot of your time searching the net then this Firefox add on will be of a lot of help.

Most search engines when searched for a string will result in jumble of different kind of result with the same string, hence this add on makes weeding out the unwanted results a click away.

It works on pretty much on all major search engines. After doing your first search, if you select a tech a dialog box appears with + and minus which cause the search engine to either add the text or filter out the text on the next search.

A good example would be when you search cars and you are

There is a good enough video tutorial

Earlier we have wrote about the various add ons in FireFox

Firefox Add-ons

Now firefox extentions (add ons / plug in) are an awesome example what Open source movement can achieve that monstrous corporations cant and results in really innovative apps which are simply cool !

Now check out IE idea of an add-on (duh!) They are playing catch-up to the amazing range of Add-ons you have in Firefox ... Long live open source !

I'll give a detailed review of each in due time, but here is a snippet of some of the really useful ones :-

  1. VideoDownloader - A nifty little add on that lets you download flash video and save as .flv in websites such as youtube, metacafe, iFilm etc. Once installed it sits on the bottom corner to be at your service when ever required.
  2. Foxy tunes - An awesome add on if you spend almost all time browsing and listening to music at the same time. You can control pretty much any music app (winamp, WMP, itune and much more) from your browser. Not just that you can find bio, lyrics and much more !
  3. Loop to PDF - This is a handy little thingamagie, kinda like swiss knife for PDF. You can convert the html page to PDF.
  4. Internote - This is a lifesaver when you are using the internet to search something and collecting a lot of info. When ever you find some info you can launch this app like a sticky note and add the info which you can access later via its manager. Forget about opening a notepad or saving to your over flooded bookmarks
  5. Copy Plain text is a useful plugin for those times when you copy and all the formatting with links, bold etc is also copied and you have to open a notepad just to un-format it . This plug in add a option to the right click called "Copy Plain Text"

Open Office

Now every one likes the "David and Goliath" Story and it is even more fun when it happens the IT world ! Now everyone hates Microsoft like they hate being fat, you want to get rid of it but just can't !!And are hopping for an anti trust suite that will shred it into different companies like standard oil.

Until then we can support the david...Openoffice

Now my friends used to rant about how there isn't an alternative to MS office that they can use, pardoning their ignorance, the alternative is Openoffice and better still its FREE !

This is a product of the Open source ideology, check out the history

The thing that I like about it that you can contribute to the cause in anyway you can.

Installing it is pretty much like any other software :-

And you get almost all the app you need for basic office (you even get OpenOffice Draw similar to corel draw)

Writer = Ms Word + Frontpage
Calc = Ms Excel
Impress = Ms PowerPoint
Draw = Coreldraw
Base = Ms access
Math = Ms equation editor

Now I will post a details review of each product over a period but here are the few awesome features

  1. Using Math you can embed scientific formulae in writer etc !
  2. you can save Impress (presentation) as a Flash file swf !!
  3. Email your documents - WRITER offers direct connection to email software.
  4. Make your documents freely available with WRITER's HTML export to the web, or publish in Portable Document Format (.pdf) to guarantee that what you write is what your reader sees
And wait for this.... all the microsoft files (.doc, .ppt, .xls etc ) will open in openoffice !

Wordpress and Blogger

Now how many times you have seen in a blog at blogspot that they have moved to Wordpress ?

Most techies somehow are prefer (biased towards) wordpress and (sometimes fairly) prefer it ! And noobs start at blogger and move to worpress ! I on the other hand started at wordpress and moved to blogger within a day !

Most people believe that wordpress have more option that they can tweek and the answer is:

Not if you are hosting at wordpress.com if you are hosting wordpress at your own server then there are loads of plugins !

For starters you dont even have access to the template as if it was a bomb forget about tweeking it. No easy way to include adsense, no easy way to include videos, the list just goes on...!

So bottom line is if you have no plans of hosting your own site then forget wordpress and better stick to blogger.

$100 Laptop, for whom ?

Now personally the $100 Laptop Project & One Laptop per Child Project is the most hyped and useless project in the recent times.

The team is impressive (now that Intel has joined the bandwagon) with 11 companies, including Google and Red Hat, which are partners in the OLPC scheme. A great philanthropy act but who will benefit it ? One may ask would money and resources be better spent in building schools and donating public computers. But this seem more like Tech show-off than for any practical good. A great opportunity for tech big weights to show off.
