Hide your IP with Proxy Browsing for FREE

Using a proxy is a great way not to reveal your identity to the website you are accessing. Now there could be tons of reasons why you might want to use proxy but here are some VALID reasons

  • IF you don't want the website collecting your IP address/ location for example like Google records details of your search including what you search and your IP address.
  • If the website had limits imposed based on IP address for example file downloading sites Rapidshare.de have bandwidth limits on IP address and region by a Proxy you can have multiple IP address and region give you unlimited download from Rapidshare, megashare etc.
  • If your IP address is a victim of mass IP ban, many websites ban IP address in block or range and some ip address becomes a casualty of reckless banning.
  • If you want to use multiple accounts at the same time if the website is IP based login. Most sophisticated websites are IP based login that means even if you change the browser your login id remains the same !

Here comes the Whipped Cream, There are many online options most of them really irritating with tons of ads and zillion pop-up and some and the goods ones are obviously PAID, Now I like the four letter word FREE (I am sure you do too) so here is the only FREE proxy Software that is of any good is ProxyWay.

Thanks to proxy I am been told that I am from Spain, USA, China & Brazil in the space of few hours !

You can download proxyway from Here, installation is pretty much like any software. Once Installed click on proxy (Retro Desktop icon) then click on the Proxyway Auto configuration button. Choose the browser you want to install the Proxy and 10-30 min later you are done !!

WE SUGGEST: you use the browser you normally don't use ofter for example I installed it on Internet explorer as I use Firfox virtually all the time ! By doing this you can use your own default setting most of the time since using a proxy is a major drag !

Now here the not so good part using a proxy

The speed sucks ! reminds you of the 28 Kbs days when you could make and eat 7 course meal before a page could be downloaded !
But hey its FREE and the website thinks you are from Sao Paulo Brazil ... what more can you ask !

You session is broken many times ! cuz depending on the proxy available the settings keep changing you might have started writing that mail in Spain and when you click send you might be in Warsaw, Poland so you are going to get sweet little error message !

Hey almost forgot here is the screen shot:

Before some weird concoction is brewed, if you thought just by changing the IP address you can anything you want and get away...guess what there are other ways to hunt you down if you did something wrong!

Free File compression software - Alternative to Winzip

If you are fed up with the Buy Now splash screen every single time you open winzip, then there are plenty of FREE option available and many are just as good !

Now Winzip itself isn't god sent, it is clunky, don't support .RAR format. Download takes 9 MB and above all really annoying when you have stare at its splash screen until it counts the number of archive opened till date !

Good news is there are tons of Free file Compression software which are as good if not better than Winzip.

  • 7-Zip - Top of the list is 7 zip. Its free, open source and only 800Kb to download.
Supported formats: Packing / unpacking: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR; Unpacking only: RAR, CAB, ISO, ARJ, LZH, CHM, Z, CPIO, RPM, DEB and NSIS

For ZIP and GZIP formats 7-Zip provides compression ratio that is 2-10 % better than ratio provided by PKZip and WinZip

What more do you want from free software !
  • ZipWiz - The first impression you get from Zipwiz is RED ! I am not sure if the developer's fav colour is red but makes every effort to include the colour. The interface is a little tacky for me but hey its FREE ! Simple to use, easy to navigate. Also has a file preview which make life easier when you have many files with the same name. Download is 2 MB though !

    More Here
  • FilZip - Filzip is free File compression software that supports roughly 15 archive types, including ARJ, CAB, RAR, TAR, and LHA. Pretty much all you want from a zip software including password-protect ZIP files and send archives over the Internet via the built-in e-mail function and last not the least the ease of drag & drop.
  • ALZip - It is really neat, quirky little software. Looks impressive for a freeware ! Supports formats from RAR and ZIP to TAR and TGZ and nearly 30 other formats
It can open CD image files (ISO, BIN), open virtual CD files (LCD), create 8 archive and compression file formats, create self-extracting files (EXE), split files for easy transfers, recover lost passwords from ZIP files. If you use compression all the time then this is really useful. And you get used to the quirky egg like logo !

You need to choose depending your usage and your preference. Well I am using 7 zip because I hardly use compression apart from that occasional mail attachment or to back-up hard disk.

How to Share CD / DVD writer - Burn/ Write disk via LAN

Ever wished you could share that CD /DVD writer on the LAN / home network, saving you the time to run back and forth between your computer and the one with disk writer or the Money to install one in each computer?

I am sure many of you might have tried sharing the Disk recorder only to realise that by sharing it only shares the data in the disk and not the device. Some even said sharing the CD / DVD writer is not possible Until I came across NeroNet.

NeroNet doesn't actually share the CD / DVD but it allows you to burn CD/DVD via LAN which is exactly you want, multiple users using a common Disk Writer. NeroNet acts like a server and the bridge between the Writer and the client on Network.

Note: You need Nero 6 or higher to get the maximum benefit.

This is how you do it.

1) Download NeroNet and Install in that Computer which has the common CD/DVD writer.
You get something like this:
NeroNet Share DVD writer

Just click Ok and go to step 2.

2) Right Click on the NeroNet systray icon and go to Web configuration.

Nero settingsOn clicking this a web browser will open with the address http://127.0.0.1/www/index.html that's the localhost address.

In this click on "User Management" and create a new user id. This is the user Id and password the different users will enter in their Nero.

Also don't forget to change the password of the administrator account.

Server Installation is done !

3) Now go to each computer from which you need to burn disk remotely and Open "Nero Burning Rom" from the Program list.

File > Preference > Expert Feature Tab

Check on the Enable NeroNet Support the click on NeroNet Button

This will open the NeroNet Accounts Window. Now to enable a new account click on Create.

Nero Share CD writer
Now Give the account name, The user name and password should be the same as any one created in Step 2.

The Ip address given is the server address and you need to enter this in the address bar of your browser to access the control panel of the server.

You can even launch the Control Panel Site by clicking On "browser " in the
NeroNet Accounts Window
Click Ok and you are Done !

If you get Login Failed that means you might have entered the wrong User name and password and check step 2 again.

Now we get to the good part How to Burn Disk Remotely !

Choose the Files you want to Write as you would do with Nero until you reach the "Final Burn Setting" Window. In this Choose the "Current Recorder" as the Profile you created in Step 3.

Then Click on Burn. This will queue your request to the Nero Server which will in turn burn the Disk on the Common CD /DVD burner.

You Can check the status at Control Panel Site.

Now One last tip: By default the Disk is ejected after burn which means the disk is no longer available to be written and someone needs to carry their lazy geek ass to reset it every single time writes it. Now a simple setting solution is to disable Disk ejection after Burn.

You can do that by going to Nero Burning ROM > Files > Preferences > Expert Features > Check: Do not eject the Disc after the Burn is complete.
